UPDATED COVID-19 NUMBERS
Another 93 deaths statewide from COVID-19 in the latest report from the Florida Department of Health, bringing the total number to 4,102.  The number of confirmed cases jumped another 11,433 to a total of 244,151.  Locally, Escambia County added another 153 cases and 1 more death.  The county now has 53 deaths and 3,485 cases.  Santa Rosa County also saw an increase, with the number of cases rising by 52 to 1,085.  No new deaths reported in Santa Rosa.
HUSBAND OF PENSACOLA WOMAN FOUND DEAD CHARGED WITH MURDER
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the husband of a Pensacola woman who’s remains were found on Thursday has been arrested for her murder. Joshua Simpson is charged in the death of Stephanie Rivers Simpson, who went missing on July 3rd. In a statement, the sheriff’s office says Simpson strangled Stephanie, and buried her body in a shallow grave near Beatrice, Alabama. He’s being held on a $1.5 million bond.
PENSACOLA CLOSING COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTERS
The city of Pensacola is closing all community resource centers and programs due to the increase in COVID-19 cases. There are some exceptions, which include free mask distributions starting on Monday, Senior meal pickups at the Bayview Senior Center, and Youth meal pickups. City outdoor parks will remain open to the public.
LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK REMINDER
With temperatures rising from really hot to oppressively hot, Escambia County leaders are reminding you to ‘look before you lock’. So far in 2020, first responders have gone on nine calls to assist a child being left in cars. Thankfully there have been no injuries or fatalities. Last year, there was one 2 year-old and a pet fatality. Florida ranks 2nd in the U.S. for vehicular heatstroke.
