A Hurricane Watch is now posted for Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties as Tropical Storm Michael gathers strength in the Caribbean. Michael is about 90 miles east of Cozumel this morning, moving north at 7 miles an hour and winds have increased to 70 miles an hour. Michael is expected to reach Northwest Florida as a Category Two hurricane as soon as Wednesday afternoon. The National Hurricane Center believes the storm will make landfall between Port St. Joe and Apalachicola. Governor Rick Scott yesterday declared a State of Emergency for 26 counties in the Panhandle and Big Bend. Escambia County officials plan a 4:30pm briefing at EOC headquarters on local preparedness.
