A Pace man is in jail on charges that he impersonated a sheriff’s deputy during a road rage incident. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office says it happened last Friday afternoon when 36-year old Daniel Evert Thames got mad at another driver for making a tight turn onto Madison Avenue in Pace and then began yelling and cussing at the other driver. That’s when deputies say he claimed to be a deputy and ordered her to pull over. Suspicious, the female victim says she asked for his badge, but he refused and left. A deputy later found Thames and arrested him. Thames is facing charges of false imprisonment and impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony. Sargent Rich Aloy says if you get pulled over by an unmarked vehicle and the person isn’t in full uniform and you are at the least bit suspicious, call them and they can quickly verify if it’s a real officer pulling you over.
