After two days without any additional coronavirus fatalities in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, the Florida Department of Health is now reporting 13 new deaths in the two county area. Escambia County added 11 to its death toll for a total of 131. In Santa Rosa County, the total number of deaths is at 40 with two deaths added. Statewide, the resident death toll increased by 276 to 8,553. Total positive cases in Florida reached 542,792 with 9,807 cases in Escambia County and 4,013 in Santa Rosa County.
PENSACOLA MAN ARRESTED IN SHOOTING DEATH OF 7-YEAR OLD GIRL
The Pensacola Police Department has arrested a 19 year-old man in connection with the shooting death of 7 year-old Aniyah Nettles. Nettles was shot and killed at a home on B Street on August 1st after a 5 year-old child picked up a handgun off of the floor. 19 year-old Corie Thompson was arrested on Tuesday and charged with culpable negligence and unsafe storage of a firearm. Thompson was the man who attempted to run away from the scene as officers arrived.
BLUE ANGELS HOMECOMING CANCELED
The Commanding Officer of NAS Pensacola says the 2020 Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow is off, and it will not be rescheduled this year. The decision comes amid COVID-19 safety concerns. Commanding Officer Captain Tim Kinsella says they made the decision with a heavy heart because they know how much the airshow means to the people of Pensacola.
SECOND TOM THUMB IN LOCAL AREA CLOSES DUE TO COVID 19.
A second Tom Thumb convenience store in our listening area has had to close its doors due to the Coronavirus. According to Channel 3, the store located on E Nine Mile Rd at Scenic Highway closed on Tuesday after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. In a statement, the company says an industrial cleaning crew will be coming by to clean and sanitize the store and they will re-open in the next few days. Previously, the Tom Thumb on Highway 87 north in Milton had to close for cleaning as well.
