COVID-19 LATEST
Total cases of COVID-19 in Florida have not increased by much since yesterday. As of this morning’s report, Florida has had 52,255 people test positive since the pandemic began with 2,259 deaths. Escambia County saw just one additional case, coming out at 769 total cases. One additional case was also reported in Santa Rosa County, with 209 total cases. No new deaths were reported in either county, with Escambia County at 26 deaths and Santa Rosa at 9.
MAN INDICTED FOR POSSESSING FIREARMS AT PENSACOLA VA FACILITY
The man accused of bringing firearms to a Veterans Affair facility in Pensacola has been indicted. The three count indictment alleges that 58-year-old Howell Camp illegally possessed a 5.56 millimeter rifle and a 9 millimeter pistol with the intent to commit a crime at the Department of Veterans Affairs Joint Ambulatory Care Clinic on May 6th. An arraignment date has been set for Thursday, May 28th.
DESANTIS ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO STATE SUPREME COURT
Governor Ron DeSantis has selected south Florida justices John Couriel and Renatha Francis to fill two vacancies on the state Supreme Court. DeSantis says the appointments came two months later than they should have due to the coronavirus pandemic, but he finally had time to properly vet the candidates. They replace justices Robert Luck and Barbara Lagoa, who were appointed to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals by President Trump.
ADDITIONAL COVID-19 TESTING SITES FOR WEDNESDAY
Opening Doors Northwest Florida is hosting a COVID-19 testing site tomorrow. It will be held from 9:00am to noon at their coordinated entry center at 1020 North New Warrington Road. No pre-screening is required. Residents are asked to bring a photo ID and insurance card if you are insured. The testing is being provided free of charge.
Santa Rosa County residents will have another opportunity to be tested for COVID-19 tomorrow. A drive-thru site is being set up at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium at 4530 Spike’s Way in Milton. Testing will be available from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. No appointment or pre-screening is required. You also don’t have to have symptoms to be tested.
